THE BUILDER

Romain

Founder

Some stories start in a boardroom. This one starts in a village bar.

Romain grew up between two worlds. The London years — fast-paced, international, ambitious. And Bassou — 869 souls in the heart of Burgundy, where everyone knows your name and rural France keeps its quiet, stubborn rhythm. In 2018, he came home. Not as a retreat, but as a statement: that you don't have to leave the countryside to build something that matters. That pride, creativity, and queerness belong here too — in the fields, in the village squares, on the terrace of the local café.

That café, by the way, he opened himself. Le 360 Bassou, a bar that doubles as a community hub, a meeting point, a stage. It's where ideas brew alongside the coffee, where locals and travelers cross paths, and where the seed of something bigger was planted: a brand that would carry the spirit of rural pride beyond Bassou's borders.

That brand is Proud & Fabulous.

A solo founder by necessity and by choice, Romain codes every day, runs the bar by night, and builds an entire ecosystem in between. Proud & Fabulous is the most personal piece of that ecosystem — a French queer pride merchandise label that refuses to follow the rules of mainstream pride marketing. No sanitized rainbows. No empty slogans. No urban gatekeeping. Instead: raw creativity, rural roots, and an unapologetic celebration of everything that makes the queer community gloriously, defiantly fabulous.

Romain is also the driving force behind Bassou Fabulous, the first pride festival ever held in a rural commune of the Yonne — happening June 21, 2026, on the village's City Stade. Free, open to all, and proudly local. Because pride isn't just for big cities. It's for everyone, everywhere — especially where no one expected it to show up.

"Build with what you have, where you are, for the people you love. And make it fabulous."

Nicolas — L'Infréquentable · Designer

THE PROVOCATEUR

Nicolas

L'Infréquentable · Designer

Some creators are born in Paris, Berlin, or New York. And then there's Nicolas. Born in Bassou — 700 inhabitants, tucked away somewhere between the fields of the Yonne and the riverbank. That's where the man now known as L'Infréquentable grew up, far from trendy studios and design schools.

The nickname fits. Because his creations don't look like anyone else's. Because they don't ask permission. Because they shake things up, they provoke, they make you laugh awkwardly or laugh out loud — but they never leave you indifferent.

A 100% self-taught designer, Nicolas draws from everything around him: the queer culture he claims as his own, the French rural identity he wears with pride, manga aesthetics, early 2000s pop culture, the loud colors of village fairs, the iconography of discount price tags. The result? An instantly recognizable style — raw, funny, in-your-face — where every visual tells a story. Often uncomfortable. Always liberating.

His signature line at Proud & Fabulous is L'Infréquentable Collection 😈: the range for those who no longer feel like filtering themselves, hiding, or trying to please everyone. A collection that says out loud what pride sometimes whispers too quietly.

Welcome to his world. Consider yourself warned.

"I don't ask permission. My designs don't either."

Betty — The Maker

THE HANDS

Betty

The Maker

Every garment that leaves Proud & Fabulous passes through Betty's hands. Every print, every stitch, every embroidered detail — it's her work, her care, her precision.

At 24, Betty is the youngest member of the Proud & Fabulous family, and a Bassou native through and through. While some her age left the village chasing city lights, she chose to stay and build something here — turning a small workshop in rural Burgundy into the beating heart of the brand's production. Printing, embroidery, finishing: nothing leaves her hands until it's right.

Her approach is the opposite of fast fashion. No anonymous factory. No mass-produced batches shipped from the other side of the world. Just one person, one workshop, one piece at a time — made with the kind of attention that only comes from doing the work yourself and caring about who's going to wear it. When you order a Proud & Fabulous tee, a hoodie, or an embroidered piece, you're not getting something off a shelf. You're getting something Betty made.

She works closely with L'Infréquentable, translating his bold, unapologetic designs into wearable reality — making sure every color pops the way it should, every line lands where it's meant to, every stitch holds up to a night out, a pride march, or a Sunday morning hangover. It's a partnership: he imagines, she builds.

Betty is proof that you don't need to be in Paris, London, or Berlin to make something beautiful. You just need good light, steady hands, and the stubborn belief that things made slowly, locally, and lovingly will always be worth more than things made fast.

Welcome to her workshop. Your next favorite piece is being made there right now.

"Made slowly, locally, lovingly — always worth more than made fast."
